Friends of the Fauna: Friends of the Yampa

We hippo creatures believe that the more time people spend loving rivers, the more likely they are to care for them.

That’s one reason Megafauna is excited to introduce Friends of the Yampa, a watershed nonprofit working to protect the environmental and recreational integrity of the Yampa River and its tributaries in Northwest Colorado.

Recreation Meets Stewardship...the best of both worlds!

Friends of the Yampa brings recreation and stewardship into the same current. We especially like their belief that all of us can play a part in caring for our rivers and landscapes.

You don’t have to be a bigwig policymaker or the head of a 9,000-acre ranch to get involved.

Friends of the Yampa works with kids, adults, landowners, river users, and communities to grow new generations of Yampa stewards. That can mean river cleanups, helping industrious landowners coexist with equally industrious beavers, educating future river lovers, building partnerships—or simply getting outside and enjoying the river you're working to protect.

It’s hands-on work worth getting your hands dirty for.

At Megafauna, we believe that getting outside and having a darn good time is part of how people come to love wild places—and loving them is where taking care of them begins.

So, if there’s a little room left on your holiday giving list, consider sending some love downstream to Friends of the Yampa.

Happy almost holidays from all of us at Megafauna!

See you on the river.
