Friends of the Yampa: Idaho Rivers United

Learn about one of Megafauna's fav organizations in the Friends of the Fauna series.

This one is worth sticking around for—even if it’s been a while since you’ve opened an email from us.

And if you happen to have the 1.7-second attention span of a hippo, please share this with anyone and everyone before you forget what you were doing.

From the perspective of us hippos, there’s a whole lot to love about Idaho. Wild rivers. Cold water. Fishy places. And, importantly, some awesome humans working to keep those rivers healthy and wild.

Megafauna is psyched to toot the horn for Idaho Rivers United (IRU), a nonprofit that has been working to protect and restore Idaho’s rivers and fisheries since 1990.

IRU is the only conservation organization in Idaho focused exclusively on the health and protection of the state’s river resources.

And Idaho has a LOT of river and there's a lot more between them and the ocean including drag bags, sharks, hamburger throw bags, bumblebees, and maybe other things too. Hard to say.

What happens to those rivers matters far beyond the water itself. Healthy rivers support fish and wildlife, communities, recreation, and everything downstream. Protecting them means protecting the wonderfully tangled web of critters and people that depend on them.

So, if you’re looking to make a splash by supporting organizations that are making a splash this holiday season, give Idaho Rivers United a look.

Learn about what they’re up to, share their work with your river-loving friends, or consider throwing a few clams—or whatever currency hippos use these days—toward their mission.

Healthy rivers need people willing to stick their necks out for them.

Luckily, IRU has been doing just that for more than three decades.

Go rivers. Go fish. Go Idaho.
